Jose Mourinho is clearly enamoured by Atletico’s setup in recent years and has move to hire Gerardo Guzman as his chief scout. This comes on the back of speculation this summer that the Portuguese manager wanted to bring Atletico’s Andrea Berta to Old Trafford.

Guzman has been replaced by San Fernando’s sporting director Natanael Cano ‘Canito’ with Guzman being entrusted with sourcing young talent from around Europe for Mourinho’s side, according to reports.

Guzman joins Guzman Kieran McKenna and Sandro Orlandelli at Old Trafford and will be in charge of finding players under-23 to bring into United’s setup.

Atletico have had success in recruiting, which is one of the reasons their side has been so successful under Diego Simeone with players like Antoine Griezmann, Yannick Carrasco and Matias Kranevitter arriving in recent years.

It will be interesting to see how United do with Guzman in their ranks and where he goes looking for talent, and likewise how Atletico Madrid respond with Canito as their chief scout.
