Atletico renew Caio Henrique until 2022 with €30 million buyout clause

Atletico Madrid and Caio Henrique have put pen to paper in an effort to ensure the 19-year-old Brazilian remains at the club for the foreseeable future - and if he leaves, Atletico’s reimbursement is in line with how they value the player.

According to reports, there is a clause within the midfielder’s contract that means he will cost any team that wished to buy him €30 million.

Atletico are safeguarding themselves against a possible drought once the potential transfer ban comes into place for the club that will reportedly be implemented after the summer transfer window.

Caio Henrique has had an excellent preseason with the club and is seen as a possible replacement for the aging Gabi or Tiago. Atletico have options in the middle of the field with Thomas, Koke and Saul but in Caio they have a more controlled and pace-setting player.

The club purchased the teenager from Santos during last winter’s transfer market and he has proven to Cholo that he can operate within his system, take orders and carry them out to the Argentine’s liking. This also might mean he is in line to merit some playing time this season as a back-up to the aforementioned senior players.
