Power Rankings: All six of Antoine Griezmann’s Euro 2016 goals ranked

He is the main reason France are in the final of Euro 2016. No questions asked. The goal against Albania, two against Ireland and two against reigning World Cup winners Germany has France on the brink of glory.

There was a lot of pressure on Griezmann and all the French players to perform but after being dropped by Didier Deschamps for the Albania clash, he has been their saving grace on more than one occasion and is a shoe-in for both the tournament’s top goalscorer and the player’s outstanding performer.

6. Penalty versus Germany

A daunting task. A diminutive attacker. A delicate left foot and a decisive finish. That’s all you need to know about this one. It’s sixth on the list because it’s from 12 yards out but make no mistake, Neuer is a phenom in the middle of the goals and to coolly send him the wrong way deserves much credit.

5. Toe poke past Neuer

The formidable German goalkeeper will surely be having nightmares about Greizmann for the foreseeable future after this. All the hard work was done by Pogba on the left but if you watch Griezmann’s instinct, he sits and waits for the ball to fall to him. You can’t teach that.

4. Calm finish versus Ireland

Maybe it was down to the poor Irish defending or the fact that the boys in green were out on their feet but Griezmann was afforded too much space and time for this to be considered any higher. It was a cool finish and one that put France on their way to the quarter-final but there was more to come.

3. Headed home against Ireland

He is smaller than your average superstar (well, himself and Messi are both outliers) and he was often overlooked as a youth prospect because of his physical stature. His sister used to have to encourage him to keep fighting for the career in football that he longed for despite his height and to see him score a header in the six-yard box against a physically dominant team was quite the sight.

2. Better late than never against Albania

More a feat of mental fortitude than physical brilliance. Griezmann was dropped for the tie against Albania following a relatively quiet opener against Romania. With their tournament possibly in the balance, Atletico’s main man popped up with a sublime glancing header. He hasn’t looked back since and he is the main reason France are in the final of Euro 2016.

1. Run and chip versus Iceland

Ok, so we appreciate the fact that Iceland were beaten at this point but just look at that awareness and trust in his teammates that he would eventually get the ball. He peels off his man, loops around and the ball rolls straight into his path. You hear them term vertical passing in modern football parlance but this is taking the piss. The chip to finish is just icing on the cake.
