Atletico Madrid have been handed a boost in their quest for a new striker this summer with news that Kevin Gameiro reportedly said he was willing to join their team. Sevilla, however, are unwilling to part with the player unless they receive €40 million in return.
The 29-year-old was vital to Sevilla’s victory in the Europa League and also the side’s run to the Copa del Rey final, which they ultimately lost to Barcelona. He scored 29 goals in all competitions last season.
Having moved from Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 in an effort to resurrect his stagnated career, he managed to do just that and appears to have convinced some of the biggest teams in Europe of his prowess.
He was linked with Barcelona and PSG recently and while that is still a possibility he signs with the former, they have Luciano Vietto in their sights and he in theirs.
Jorge Sampaoli remains a fan of Vietto but the Argentine is said to have his heart set on a move to La Liga’s champions.
If Atletico decide to sell Vietto to Barcelona, a deal might be struck with Sevilla for Gameiro but the possibility of Monchi getting his man in Vietto and Simeone getting his is also distinct.
One way or another, Gameiro’s willingness to move to the Calderon certainly swings the transfer in Atletico’s direction.
