Borja Baston has suffered a broken forearm at preseason training, according to multiple reports.

The 23-year-old enters a critical period in his time at Atletico Madrid and was, and still is, in the process of trying to convince Diego Simeone that he is a viable option up front next season.

He scored 18 goals in 36 games last season and was one of the main reasons why Eibar avoided relegation and were comfortable for a large part of the season despite their collapse near the end of the campaign.

The machine he was using during a strength training exercise included a resistance band and when it became dislodged, it hit the striker in the forearm causing a pretty significant cut that was immediately seen to by the medical staff. He did break his right forearm, however, with the force of the accident and no timeframe has been given for his return.

Atletico are reportedly looking for a striker and Baston’s injury will not help when it comes to Simeone’s decision on the Spaniard’s future although you would have to think Cholo will give him ample opportunities to prove himself and not allow a freak accident be the sole determiner of his career at Atletico.
