For the second time in three years, the Champions League final will double as a Madrid Derby. Real Madrid outlasted Manchester City to secure a 1-0 victory on Wednesday, setting up a rematch of the 2014 final. Real Madrid won that match 4-1.
Diego Simeone will get his chance at revenge having gone 3-0-1 against his Madrid rivals ever since that final. Atletico won the most recent meeting 1-0 and tied this season's other match 1-1.
Of course, Real Madrid has been on an absolute tear since their loss to Atletico. Real Madrid has gone a perfect 10-0-0 and outscored their opponents 34-7 in La Liga play since that game. They've also gone 3-1-1 in the five Champions League games leading up to the final.
Atletico hasn't faired too poorly, either. They've gone 9-1 in league play since the last encounter with Real Madrid, albeit mostly on the back of a defense that has allowed just five goals in that time. They've also needed to knock off two of the world's biggest teams in Barcelona and Bayern Munich on their way to this final.
