Nico Gaitan will join Atletico Madrid after the Champions League final according to multiple reports. Spanish journalist Alberto Barbero, who tends to be quite trustworthy, has tweeted the news that started coming out of Portugal this evening. The fee is believed to be in the region of €25 million.

The 28-year-old Argentine has reportedly played his last game for Benfica as his side beat Maritimo 6-2 in the Taça da Liga - Portugal's League Cup. He landed Benfica's fourth goal just after half-time.

The attacking midfielder scored four times in 25 appearances as Benfica marched beat Sporting Lisbon to the league by just two points. He also impressed heavily at the Calderon in the Champions League as he scored one and assisted another on the way to beating Atletico 2-1 in the second game of the CL group stage.

Gaitan has been linked with a move away from Benfica almost every year since he joined the club back in 2010. Every team in Europe including Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Liveprool and Real Madrid have been linked but based on our intelligence at Into The Calderon (one of the lads is from Madrid), the journalist in question is trustworthy. That's enough for us!

Even if it's not true, it gives us an opportunity to link a "Best of:" YouTube video with crappy music in the background.
