Atletico Madrid have decided to renew the contract of Fernando Torres following last night game at the Camp Nou according to Onda Cero.
The Spanish striker's is on loan from AC Milan but his contract expires in the summer at which point he will become a free agent. Torres gave Atletico the lead against Barcelona before being unceremoniously sent off with just 35 minutes played. On a night that he has described as "the worst of my career" and apologised to his teammates after the game, Atletico have decided how important he is to the team.

While the debate rages on regarding the referee's decision to send Torres off, Atletico's board of directors are quite clear as to what he offers the side. On an emotional night in Catalonia, Torres landed a superb goal that might have been good enough to see them over the line had they kept their heads and 11 men on the field for the entirety of the game.
Torres, who had eight offers from around the world, wants to remain at Atletico and it seems now that he will get the chance to do so beyond 2016.
