Atletico Madrid will face Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final in an effort to land a spot in the final at the San Siro in May. The dust has hardly settled on the Calderon after Simeone's men took part in one of the great European night's in the clubs history by defeating Barcelona 2-0 on Wednesday night to seal their passage into the semi-finals.
Los Rojiblanco's opponents survived through a group consisting of Arsenal, Olympiacos and Dinamo Zagreb before overcoming Juventus in an epic encounter in the last sixteen before facing Benfica in the quarter finals.
They currently sit atop the Bundesliga and look set for a fourth consecutive league title. It is Pep Guardiola's last year at the club having announced he will be managing Manchester City next year. The possibility for Pep to beat his future club in the final is still in play, of course, after this draw.
Atletico are currently embroiled in a La Liga title chase-down of Barcelona along with Real Madrid and will have one eye on their domestic campaign. Simeone's men might feel as though this competition owes them something, however, after their heartbreak against bitter rivals Real Madrid in Lisbon in 2014. Juanfran proclaimed recently that they will eventually right the wrong of Lisbon, but they will feel the draw in the semi-final was relatively unkind with Bayern being the clear favourites and Simeone will have to mastermind another usurping of a favourite in order to reach Milan in May.
Here is the draw as it unfolded:
