PSV Eindhoven 0-0 Atlético Madrid: Player Ratings

Atleti fail to score against 10-man PSV, you know the deal

This shouldn't take too long:

Jan Oblak, GK: 7

Made a great save on Gaston Pereiro midway through the first half that turned out to be critical. Kept another clean sheet, which I guess is a silver lining.

Juanfran, RB: 7

Most of Atlético's buildup on Wednesday consisted of force-feeding Juanfran on the right and hoping someone would connect with one of his crosses. He handled this burden pretty well, I thought.

Diego Godín, CB: 7

Got Pereiro sent off midway through the second half and made a crucial block on a Jetro Willems shot earlier in the first half. Also had a set-piece goal ruled out for a foul (deservedly). Busy night for the pharaoh, did well.

Stefan Savic, CB: 6

Good enough from the Montenegrin, had little to do in the second half but was pretty effective in the first 45. Could he be in line for another start on Saturday?

Filipe Luís, LB: 6

Wasn't terribly impressed with his performance, despite some silky dribbling and good intent.

Óliver Torres, RM: 4

Useless. Bloody incredible that he made it 90 minutes. His night consisted of a bunch of sideways passes and heavy through balls that failed to ignite an attack which desperately needs a spark. Probably will see his playing time cut completely once Yannick Carrasco returns.

Gabi, CM: 8

The captain really was solid on the night, his steady hand and tidy defensive work helped keep PSV's high-flying attack at bay. Was forced into taking corners in the second half, marginally better than Koke at taking them.

Saúl Ñíguez, CM: 6

Excellent first half, melded his defensive responsibilities with attacking intent. Tailed off badly in the second half and was eventually removed.

Koke, LM: 5

Almost useless. Should be off all set-piece duties until further notice, first of all. He had way too many touches to be as ineffectual as he was and missed one of three excellent chances in the first half. Finally, he nearly turned a harmless Willems cross into his own net. Koke might miss Carrasco more than anyone, he's not nearly creative enough or direct enough to have chief playmaking duties fall to him.

Antoine Griezmann, FW: 4

Useless. Atleti need Griezmann's goals like fish need water, and the Frenchman may now be battling fatigue as well as a poor run of form. Need more evidence? A fully-fit Griezmann buries the chip that Jeroen Zoet saved in the first half.

Luciano Vietto, FW: 5

Was the right move giving him a start, but was largely absent (again) outside of one clear-cut chance inside five minutes. Vietto was visibly frustrated after his removal on the hour, which can't have helped his confidence. I'm just sad for him at this point.

Fernando Torres, FW: 5

Came on for Vietto on the hour. That's about it.

Ángel Correa, FW: 6

Came on for Saúl in the 72nd minute. Took entirely too long for Simeone to throw the young Argentine on, and he was good (albeit a bit tentative) once inserted into the game. What if he had been given an entire second half?
