What is happening? One minute Diego Simeone says he is going nowhere and the next, he has informed Atletico he is leaving and Unai Emery is being forced to play down links between him and a move to the Vicente Calderon.

On Tuesday, rumours appeared in a Spanish outlet suggesting Diego Simeone had informed Atletico Madrid that he was leaving the club at the end of the season. The report stated Simeone had agreed to a £9 million a year deal to move to London. It was also mentioned that Roman Abramovich was having second thoughts about appointing Simeone due to the perceived negativity of his tactics. But it did not stop the speculation.

Simeone did not so much as deny the rumours on Thursday but would not even qualify them with an answer, basically because he has nothing to answer to. According to Goal.com, he said "We are more concerned with the game against Villarreal at the weekend than anything else."

Cut to Thursday and Unai Emery was being forced to reject the speculation that suggested he was in line to replace Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid. At his press conference before his Europa League tie wth Molde that, "this is speculation. I'll return to reality. I'm very happy at Sevilla."

From a nothing report from a dubious publication to Simeone and Unai Emery packing their bags. What a shambles!?
