Atletico Madrid linked with Lyon’s Rachid Ghezzal

Diego Simeone needs to do something to spice up Atletico’s attack. Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco has emerged as star in the making but Nico Gaitan’s move from Benfica during the year has been a failure thus far.

Antoine Griezmann is gone cold in front of goal and with Kevin Gameiro largely reliant on all of the above pieces fitting together, he can’t do much more than he is - aside maybe from improving his strike rate, but that’s another debate for another day.

Atletico have been linked with Lyon’s Rachid Ghezzal, according to L’Equipe recently.

The 24-year-old plays predominantly on the right wing and might be seen as a replacement for Gaitan. He has scored one goal in 11 Ligue 1 matches and assisted with two more.

Ghezzal, who is out of contract next summer, has been offered a new and improved contract and Lyon are hopeful that he will renew but with Atletico’s transfer ban looming and a need to inject something new into their attack or fear finishing outside the top three, you can imagine they will do all they can in the winter to make sure that does not happen.
