Alessio Cerci’s time at Atlético Madrid has become a running joke at Into the Calderón, and we dare say amongst Atlético fans around the world. He appeared from the wilderness, however, on Tuesday during Atlético’s Copa del Rey game against Guijuelo.
He had played for Atlético in over two years, since Dec. 14, 2014 against Villarreal to be precise (a game that Atleti lost 1-0). He had been sent off against Valencia before that and was struggling to adapt to Diego Simeone’s training and what he required of his players.
We may be forgetting that Cerci was a good player once upon a time and a good signing, on paper! He had well and truly become the forgotten man at Atlético but after 737 days and an entire year last year without playing once, he was back on the Vicente Calderón turf! Here is how Twitter reacted...

Cerci comes on
4-1 FT
#Atleti's next match will be a friendly in Saudi Arabia against local side Al-Ittihad on December 30th. Could Cerci get another run out?
