Atletico Madrid fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad as their form away from starts to cause concerns for fans. Another point of contention includes Antoine Griezmann’s form. He has not scored in La Liga since the Valencia game at the start of October.
He did land two against Rostov in the Champions League and there are not real long term concerns but in the short term, Simeone will have to do something to reignite Griezmann’s fortunes in front of goal.
The Rojiblanco is not concerned, however, as he says after the game when asked about Griezmann’s drought (courtesy of AS English):
“That’s incidental, the other day he hardly had any chances and he scored twice, and today he had chances and he didn’t score. He’ll score again soon, there’s no need to make a big deal out of it.”
For a long time, Griezmann was Atletico’s only hope in front of goal but with the emergence of Yannick Carrasco as a threat and Kevin Gameiro’s immersion into the team, there was always going to be an adjustment period.
Griezmann and Simeone will have to figure out a way to make sure he gets more chances, however, and breaks his duck in front of goal or Atletico will be on the outside of the top four looking in when it matters next May.
