Atletico travel to the north-west region that is Salamanca to take on Club Deportivo Guijuelo in the first round of the Copa del Rey’s round of 32 fixture.

Some of the biggest news is who is not in the squad, perhaps, as Atletico try to rebuild their league form. There is no Oblak, Juanfran, Godín, Filipe, Koke, Gameiro, Griezmann, Torres in the squad but Nico Gaitan has made it despite what appeared to be a warning shot from Simeone on the Argentinian recently.

He said, “Gaitán? Players need to look for what the team needs.”

He has failed to make the impact expected since arriving from Benfica in the summer and despite some very brief glimpses, it does not look like he will in the coming weeks as niggly injuries have also held up his progress with the team.

The other news is that we will get a chance to have a look at Caio Henrique, who impressed during preseason. There is some brand new attacking talent in the team and it might become more an exercise in watching the youth than anything else and also allowing the likes of Correa be the star in the attacking line in the absence of other players.
