Whether or not Antoine Griezmann makes El Derbi is anyone’s guess but it seems he is in line to play given recent updates from the club and captain Gabi ahead of the biggest game of Atletico’s season on Saturday night.
“He's got a nasty knock, and he's got work to do to be able to make it. We are hioing he can withstand the pain and help us on Saturday,” says Gabi, according to AS English.
It has to be said that a little ambiguity is not a bad thing when it comes to what Real Madrid know about the game. Griezmann’s availability is obviously going to change a team’s gameplan drastically and the more time Real Madrid planning for no Griezmann, the less time they have planning for a game with him in it.
We don’t need to know and Real Madrid don’t need to know. As long as Atletico do then that’s all that really matters.
A club statement read:
"In the x-ray that was completed yesterday, an injury to the bone was ruled out and the diagnosis indicates that he has suffered a trauma with a hematoma on the left foot.
"Both the medical services of the France national team and those of Atletico Madrid have agreed for the Frenchman to return to Madrid, where he has already been placed in the hands of our physiotherapists.”
