Manchester United have been linked with Antoine Griezmann today according to the Manchester Evening News. The French striker had been incessantly linked with Chelsea for the last few weeks and months but the Manchester newspaper are reporting that United could be in for the striker and appear to be basing the links on comments made by Diego Simeone in recent weeks.
Simeone said recently, "The sporting directors have been speaking to him[Griezmann] directly, with those close to him, in order to work out what's best for him and the club. Of course he's a very important player for us, but we can't hold him here with chains."
Griezmann has rebuffed offers in the past and again clarified his status at the club by telling French publication, Telefoot, recently that, "I am feeling very well at Atletico. This is a big club and I want to achieve great things here. I am ambitious and my goal is to win trophies here. I have become more mature. The club and my team-mates rely on me. I have become a more complete player and have to continue on the same path. I am not at my best just yet.I work every day to improve and reach my top. I am still far away from the best players."
Rumours are to be expected when your club possess one of the top five players in the world, but to suggest that these rumours are tenuous would be putting it mildly.
Griezmann has a contract at Atletico until 2020 and won't be leaving any time soon, we can assure you of that.
