Atletico Madrid are preparing a new deal with Antoine Griezmann that will see his release clause raise to €100 million according to reports in AS English. The French forward currently has a release clause of €80 million but according to the reports, Atletico are doing the groundwork to make sure Griezmann doesn't leave until his current deal expires in 2020.
Griezmann seems happy at Atletico and has stated this to the club, who continue to make ground on Real Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga and Europe's big-hitters in the Champions League. While the new deal would increase his release clause, it would also improve the player's wages to align with the better players in Europe, which he has quickly become.
Griezmann has many suitors around Europe including prolonged speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea. PSG, Bayern Munich and even Real Madrid have also been mentioned a possible landing spots. AS mention the possibility of a gentleman's agreement that ensures Griezmann will not even listen to offers for the next two years and a move to Real Madrid, at this stage, is considered almost impossible.
Griezmann is set to show Europe and the world just how good he is at the Euros on home soil this summer and there is sure to be further speculation during future transfer markets provided he puts on a good show during the tournament.
He is currently Atletico Madrid's top scorer and talisman with 14 goals and four assists including the opener against Celta Vigo recently that sent los rojiblancos back to the top of the league at the halfway point of the season.
