Manchester United have sent delegates to Madrid in order to discuss the possibility of a transfer with Atletico Madrid for Saul Niguez according to reports in Spain. The 21 year old has been in magnificent form recently since stepping in for the injured Tiago Mendes and Manchester United have offered an initial €20 million but would be willing to increase that offer.

Saul, reportedly, has a buy-out clause of €24 million and United have said that if they don't get the young midfielder in this window, they will return in the summer with a better bid and seem determined to land their man. Diego Simeone, however, remains enamoured with the youngster and the faith he has shown in the canterano has been restored since Saul was thrown into the starting line-up in November. Important goals against Benfica in the Champions League, Athletic Bilbao in La Liga and Rayo Vallecano in the Copa del Rey by Saul have resulted in Atletico's continued fight on all three fronts.

Atletico have informed the English club that Saul is not for sale and have stated the fact that they are still battling for these three titles and need all of their players as the reason for not listening to offers at this time. This does not address the issue of a possible summer move, but given Saul's recent chances and his growing influence at the club, it might prove a difficult decision to leave the club he joined when he was fourteen.

He was excellent in Atletico's most recent victory over Celta Vigo at Balaidos on Sunday night and if his form continues, Manchester United won't be the only club enquiring about the young Spaniard in the coming months. Saul's contract with Atletico expires in 2020.
